IAIS is proud to highlight the artistry of Takara Matthews during the months of April and May 2014.  Takara, a member of the Abenaki Sokoki tribe is a Champion Women's Fancy Dancer and Jingle Dress Dancer.

Born in Naugatuck Connecticut, she has been raised in the traditions of her Abenaki, Lumbee, and Muskogee heritage.  Takara has toured the New England area with the W'Abenaki Dance Troupe helping to educate and promote Abenaki culture.  She has been a fancy shawl dancer since the age of four and is currently a jingle dress dancer.

Takara's artistry focuses on beadwork, applique and regalia.  For sale will be a variety of beaded purses, medallions, earrings and jewelry.  Takara also proudly serves her country as Airman 1st Class in the Vermont Air National Guard.  She and her family reside in Vermont.

Artist Corner and Sale opens in our Museum Gift Shop on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 and runs through May 31, 2014.
